Pyrite is found in soils and sediments around the globe, often as micoscopic crystals. The formation of these crystals depends on the iron content of the sediment. It forms when bacteria removes oxygen from sulfate ions in water, reducing these ions to sulphide. This sulphide reacts with iron in the surrounding sediment and Pyrite is formed. Naturally found in cubic structures due to the chemical formula of one iron molecule and two sulphur molecules, Pyrite (sometimes known as Fool's Gold) is a golden, brown colour with metallic lustre and can be found as inclusions within other crystals - commonly within Lapis Lazuli.
Thought of as a powerfully protective stone, Pyrite creates a shield against negative energy. A very positive stone, It is thought to help overcome feelings of inadequacy by boosting self confidence, self-belief and self-worth. It is also a reliever of anxiety and frustration.
Mental activity is increased by Iron Pyrite because of its ability to increase blood flow to the brain making it a great office/workspace companion.
