Calcite is a mineral consisting mainly of calcium carbonate, other than quartz, it is the most abundant of the Earth's minerals. Made up of crystallised hexagons in alternating layers of small calcium atoms and bicarbonate, calcite is known for its wide variety of crystalline forms. Found in a variety of colours, from clear, to greens, blues, yellows, oranges, browns, reds, pinks and greys. Transclucent and waxy, calcite is often banded. These specific colours are associated with additional properties.
In general calcite is believed to be an amplifier and cleanser of energies both within our physical body, emotional body, spiritual being and our environment. A spiritual stone linked to higher consciousness, calcite opens a higher awareness of psychic abilities therefore accelorating spiritual development.
By calming the mind, calcite is beleived to stimulate insight and boost memory - it facilitiates knowing information and retaining it - useful for study. As well, this calming effect relieves emotional stress replacing it with serenity.
Physically, calcite cleanses the organs and encourages calcium uptake in bones, whilst dissolving calcifications, strengthening the skeleton and joints - great for aiding growth in children. It is thought to alleviate skin conditions, stimulate blood circulation and fortify the immune system.
